About us
Mapineq identifies and tackles the main drivers of inequality trends. Mapineq Link compiles, curates and distributes a unique open-access inequality database for a one-stop shop that includes multiple types of data at various levels of geographic resolution. This includes measures such as: institutional and socioeconomic policies, physical environment, unconventional commercial sources, socio-demographic measures to health and lifestyle indicators.
Our team
We are a team of researchers and geospatial information technology experts, who joined forces as part of the European Union Funded Project Mapineq: Mapping inequalities through the life course.
We are based at the Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen (Netherlands) and Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science, Oxford Population Health, University of Oxford (UK). We joined forces with the University of Groningen's Geodienst (Geoservice) to collaborate and build this dashboard.
Our team is led by Professor Melinda Mills (Groningen/Oxford) and Dr. Douglas Leasure (Oxford, pictured below), together with Giovanni Scotti Bentivoglio (Groningen) and Professor Gerard van den Berg (Groningen).
About the Geodienst
The Geodienst is the main technical developer of the Mapineq website, data catalogue, and interactive map, working together with the Mapineq Link team to realise their database and dashboard goals.
As the spatial expertise center of the University of Groningen, we offer support for all students & staff with GIS and data management.
We are the central point of contact for technological innovation in the field of spatial information technology including data, software, and visualization. Additionally, we can improve engagement with research output by developing (interactive) maps.
